قبل عام ٢٠٠٣ كان الأطفال يموتون في العراق بسبب الحصار الاقتصادي الذي فرضته الأمم المتحدة بسبب الحروب التي قادها صدام حسين ، وبعد عام ٢٠٠٣ ماتت الطفولة في الطفل العراقي و السبب ،

١. انعدام الأمن وارتفاع وتائر العنف الطائفي.
٢. تدهور نظم الرعاية الصحية، واستشراء الفقر.
٣. تعرض أعداد كبيرة من السكان للسجن.
٤. تدهور الواقع الخدمي ويتجلى ذلك بنقص المياه النظيفة، والحرمان من الطاقة الكهربائية، والتلوث البيئي والافتقار للمرافق الصحية .
٥. انهيار النظام الصحي وتدمير البنية التحتية له وعدم الاهتمام به من قبل الحكومات المتعاقبة بعد الاحتلال .
٦. الفساد الإداري والمالي المنتشر في مؤسسات الدولة وخاصة الأجهزة الصحية.
٧. رداءة نوعية الأدوية المستوردة بسبب عدم وجود أجهزة فحص وسيطرة نوعية مما سهل نفاذها في الأسواق العراقية بدون رقيب.
٨. لعبت قسم من المفاصل الطبية دوراً كبيراً في تفشي الأمراض من خلال استيراد الأمصال الطبية الملوثة لقتل أكبر عدد ممكن من أطفال العراق .
٩. انتشار الأغذية الفاسدة والمسرطنة في الأسواق العراقية سواء تلك التي استوردها القطاع الخاص أو وزارة التجارة والتي لعبت دوراً في انتشار الأمراض القاتلة .
١٠. تدهور نظام الرعاية الصحية والاغتيالات المنظمة للأطباء والكادر الصحي تسبب بزيادة عدد الضحايا في صفوف الأطفال.

بالرغم الأموال الهائلة التي تخصص لبناء أماكن ترفيهية للأطفال في كل عام ولكن كل هذه الأموال يتم سرقتها في المجالس البلدية (بدون رقابة أو محاسبة) .

تقوم الحكومة ببيع مادة زيت الغاز الى مافيات داخلية بصورة مباشرة أو غير مباشرة ليتم بيعها بأسعار مضاعفة في السوق السوداء ،وعندما تبحث عن محطة تعبئة وقود فيها مادة زيت الغاز لا تجد أي واحدة فيها مع العلم أن جميع المحطات الوقود لديهم حصص ولكن لا يبيعون حسب النظام مع علم وزارة النفط بهذا الأمر ؟؟؟
