كانت دور السينما في العراق معلماً من معالم بغداد ، ومنبراً من منابر الثقافة يوم كانت بعض دورها الرصينة تهتم بشراء وعرض الافلام العربية والعالمية ذائعة الصيت بسبب فوزها في مهرجانات عالمية أو إعداد سيناريوهات عن روايات عالمية ، وكان أول عرض لفيلم سينمائي في العراق ليلة26 تموز1909 في دار الشفاء بجانب الكرخ وبعد مرور عامين شهدت منطقة العبخانة عرضاً آخر وعندها أقيمت أول سينما في بغداد أطلق عليها (سينما بلوكي) ،أما اليوم تعاني صالات السينما الأهمال حتى اصبح بعضها مخزن للبضائع أو مكان مهجور تملئه الفئران ولم تحرك وزارة الثقافة ساكنا .
